Mr. Trask has undergraduate (Bachelor’s Honours) and graduate (Master’s) degrees in Economics and over 30 years work experience in areas specific to economic development, R&D and innovation. He has significant expertise in economic research and analysis, program development and delivery, and the identification of development opportunities in oil and gas, mining and other industries. Previous positions include Senior Economist with the Advisory Council on the Economy, Senior Economic Analyst (Major Projects) with the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Vice-President responsible for Strategy, Program Development and Delivery with the Research & Development Corporation. He is currently responsible for the Royalties and Benefits Division of the Department of Natural Resources in the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. As Assistant Deputy Minister (Royalties and Benefits), responsibilities include: the negotiation, development, administration and monitoring of oil and gas project agreements and legislation; the development and implementation of royalty regulations and audit requirements; the provision of economic, financial and market information, analysis, and advice required for resource management decisions; and the maximisation of industrial benefits to the local economy from the development of major mining and energy projects through negotiation of benefits commitments, benefits monitoring and international promotion of the province’s industrial capacity and capabilities.
